CHERYL ANNE MCCARTY, born in St. Louis, MO, on March 4, 1956, to Robert McCarty and Gwendolyn Johnson, valiantly and peacefully departed on January 6, 2025. She was preceded in transition by Robert McCarty, Gwendolyn Johnson, and Allen Monroe Mask Sr.
Cheryl affectionately was called Rabbit. She attended Marquette, which is now called Middle School, graduated from Ritenour High School, and earned honors at Harris-Stowe State University. Throughout her early and advanced academic years, her intelligence, diligence, and persistent virtues were gifts that allowed her to excel academically and throughout life.
Cheryl was a lifelong student, learner, travel and fitness enthusiast, which served her well into her latter years. She was an avid reader, writer, and music listener, with gospel, jazz, and R&B being her preferred genres. Cheryl was very family-oriented and community-minded, which is why it comes as no surprise that one of the career fields she endeavored in was teaching. Some of her years were spent learning and developing her spirituality through the school of mission, along with being a summer program instructor at Beloved Community Church during her time there.
Cheryl was baptized as an infant and professed her love for Christ as a youth at LaSalle United Methodist Church, now known as Beloved Community Church, during her teen years. Cheryl was a lifelong and dutiful member of LaSalle, as well as a member of Central Baptist Church. A devoted member at both of her church homes, she served as an usher, choir member, and Sunday School teacher (LaSalle).
Cheryl worked at Ms. Allison’s Cookie Co. for 27 years, New City School, Dillard's, Gateway High, River View, and also employed her ambitious entrepreneurial spirit through MaryKay sales. She concluded her legacy in the St. Louis Public Schools, leaving a lasting impact on many of the students.
In the hereafter, Cheryl leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Robert J. Thomas Jr. (Gale) and Devin A.J. Mask; her brothers and sisters Kim Nelson, Kevin McCarty, Glen Johnson, Robert McCarty III, and Pamela Taylor; and an abundance of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She cared for and supported not only her immediate family but also extended family, friends, and associates.
To our sister Cheryl: We’re truly heartbroken by your untimely return, but we are happy and find solace in knowing that you won’t have to suffer anymore. You were our protector, our educator, and a model of elegance. You were the truest sister a person could be fortunate enough to have. You were a faithful woman of God. We love you dearly, and may the wings of peace always be with you.
Love, your siblings
