Mrs. Gladys Johnson was born on March 18, 1937, to the union of Otis Robinson and Sallie Burns in Merigold, Mississippi. She was educated in the Merigold Mississippi School System. Gladys accepted Christ at an early age and deepened her faith throughout her life. In 2001, she was confirmed as a Catholic at St. Elizabeth Mother of John the Baptist, where she remained a devoted member until her health began to decline. Despite her illnesses, she remained faithful and prayerful, continuously seeking the Lord's guidance and comfort. Gladys was united in marriage to Cleo Johnson, with whom she shared 37 years of love and partnership until his passing in 2003. She leaves to cherish her memory three children: Glen Robinson Sr. (Mona), Julia Johnson, and Paul Johnson. Her legacy also lives on through her four grandchildren: Alexis, Michael, Jasmin, and Glen II. She is survived by her loving older sister, Lillie Hill (Chicago, IL), her niece Ivy Jean Rose, and her special niece Sallie M. Foster (Cleveland, MS). Additionally, she is fondly remembered by her brothers-in-law, Jake Johnson (Louise) and Robert Johnson, and her sister-in-law, Beatrice Middleton (Sammie). Mom was one of the strongest women we have ever known. Small in frame but with an unwavering strength, she carried a "big stick." She loved her children and family fiercely, always caring and giving. She was known for her signature "tea cakes," often made for family
and delivered alongside holiday dinners to bring joy to others. Gladys had a profound love for Gospel music, especially Lee Williams, whose concerts she attended many times in St. Louis. She also enjoyed the blues, particularly Bobby Rush, and found joy in his performances as well. Her greatest delight, however, was her grandchildren. She treasured the summers spent with them, filled with trips to amusement parks, skating outings, and cozy days at home watching videos. You were her light, her love, and the source of her greatest pride. On December 18, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., Gladys peacefully departed this life to journey home to the Lord, with her beloved daughter by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Sallie Robinson; and her siblings, Ossie Mae Mixon, Eauline Pridgeton, Otis Robinson Sr., and her baby sister, Lucille Rose.
